Question:
Imam Abu Hanifa has said,
“Throw my ruling on the wall if it’s not
in accordance with Hadith.” So, why
don’t you follow Imam Abu Hanifa?
Answer: Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) has,
without any doubt, advised “Throw
my ruling on the wall if it’s not in
accordance with Hadith.” However, his advice was not for
people like us – who are not even
able to read Qur'an correctly, nor do
we have in-depth knowledge of
Quran, nor can we differentiate
between Nasikh and Mansookh.
Neither nor are we aware of different
types of Hadith like:
Sahih,
Maruf,
Mursal,
Maqtoo,
Mauquf,
Hasan,
Zaeef,
Gareeb,
Muztarib,
Mauzoo, and several other types.
His advice was meant for his disciples
and students who were the most
highly learned Ulmas and Fuqhas of
the time.
How can we, without having even
basic knowledge of Islam, dare to
criticize someone like Abu Hanifa ﺭﺣﻤﺔ
ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ, who was a fountain of knowledge. Moreover, the above-mentioned
advice of Imam Abu Hanifa ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺭﺣﻤﺔ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ was duly followed by his scholarly
students like Imam Abu Yousuf, and
Imam Muhammad etc.
A group of great scholars comprising
of about forty Fuqhas and Ulemas,
most of them were disciples of Imam
Abu Hanifa ﺭﺣﻤﺔ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ , minutely and thoroughly examined and appraised
the entire work of Imam Abu Hanifa
ﺭﺣﻤﺔ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪduring the compilation of Hanafi Fiqh.
These scholars have not only just
revised and amended Imam Abu
Hanifa’s rulings but also have replaced
them, wherever applicable, with more
authentic ones.
